Smudging is the burning of specific herbs to expel evil spirits and energies. It is now popular worldwide to cleanse the living environment from negativity. Many people burn white sage in their homes for this and open the windows wide to expel the bad atmosphere

White sage is native to California. The fragrance is very intense and spicy. It is the best-known spice used to perform smudging. The old story behind this is that evil spirits cannot tolerate white sage. For example, they could be chased away by burning white sage sprigs.
